The truth about inner terrestrials

INNER TERRESTRIALS INTERVIEW

Anarchy and punk have been mixing it up together since before Johnny Rotten first uttered the immortal words ‘Anarchy in the UK’. It has to be said though, apart from a few notable exceptions, ‘anarcho-punk’ tends to be more about the anarchy than music. Lets face it, even some of the biggest bands on the scene bang out a noise that is hard to describe as music. Inner Terrestrials are a notable exception. Blending skanking dub and hardcore punk with a touch of furious folk they are truly a band worth checking out. Not exactly household names though are they! We tried to find out why.

Inner Terrestrials (IT) have been around for some time now, but it would be fair to say they are not a house hold name, even on the punk scene. This could be down to the fact that although they are big on the underground scene, playing loads of protests, squat parties, Traveler’s sites and anti-road camps, on the whole, when it comes to proper gigs they prefer to play in Europe.

Why is that? "It's better. Much much better." Guitarist J jumps in without hesitation. "The squat scene over there is amazing. You can walk into a squatted bingo hall or whatever and it will be done up like a bleedin' palace with a bar that is smarter than your local pub and hundreds of punks wandering around. It just blows the UK away. The DIY squat scene over there is far more vibrant than the official scene over here." "They are so organised.." adds bass player Fran, contender for the longest Dreadlocks in Rock. "..they are so enthusiastic, it's just so easy. It's not hard work like it is over here, we just go over and play really good tours. We go down much better over there." "Once you go over there and do a couple of good tours and start to get a reputation.." concludes J "..it's easy to just carry on and it is easy to forget about the UK... But we are still here!"

The mere mention of the name IT often has people saying "Ahhhh...Ex Conflict!" Are they though? "We definitely get a bit pissed off with that. We are nothing to do with Conflict. It is just a coincidence that our drummer, Paco, used to be in Conflict." Moans J. "We don't get it so much around Europe, we have very much got our own thing going over there. There are people around that don't even realise Paco was in Conflict. It is not a jealousy thing, it's just that we are nothing to do with Conflict. As it Happens, Paco is now ex-ex-Conflict, they are touring again now.. without him!" "We sound absolutely nothing like Conflict" Paco manages to get in, between coughs brought on by a lifetime of debauchery. We would agree. Their Dub fuelled Hardcore tinged with a hint of diddly keeps you constantly guessing what is coming next and is streets away from the sound of Conflict. One thing they do share though is their contempt for 'The System', which shows up in their angry conscious lyrical style. (It has been known for Paco to play with Conflict when both bands play on the same bill... but that is irrelevant really)

While chatting to J to arrange IT's first Iguana gig, the Button Factory, a squatted venue in Brixton came into the conversation several times. J had described it as "The best squatted venue in London". The week before they came over the Severn to play an Iguana gig, The Button Factory had a visit from The Forces of law and Order. 200 Blue Meanies had swamped the place, removed the 'evidence' and the place was promptly bulldozed to the ground. Why? "It was a training ground for 500 hardcore anarchists who were coming to the factory to polish up on their rioting skills in readiness for Mayday. I will have to speak to the Sub Area Commander if I am allowed to tell you any more. Seriously though, the Button Factory was the one place in the UK that was like a European squat. It was an open space for all sorts of people, it was £2.50 in, £1 for a can of beer, and there would be 3 bands on a night and crowds of up to 300 people. They were just starting to network with the European squats, get European bands to come over and pay them a decent wage. But, the Met. and Scotland Yard decided to portray it as something that does not really exist on the scene, a training camp for anarchists for gawd sake!. There are no 'Ringleaders'." The authorities are just scared of people coming together, organising things themselves and the fact that they have no control over it. They cannot understand the concept of people doing things for the love of it and not making any money. "The people that set it up though, are obviously quite resourceful, so.. watch this space!"

There may be no leaders for the free, but there is definitely an upserge in discontent among the masses at the moment. Is it just another peak that will fade away or is this the big one? "We have never been in this position before." States J, ready to go off into one even though he has only just woke up. "We have never realised before that we only have 60 years before all the Earth's natural resources will be dried up. Governments have never admitted before that we have fucked up the atmosphere to the point where the weather has changed forever. We don't have time to have many more 'phases' of the revolution, 'cos if we don't sort things out soon we will be the last generation of human beings on this planet."

How far should we go though, should we, for instance, condone violence such as the violence recently meted out on the geezer from Huntingdon Life Sciences? "There are 3 of us in the band.." continues J "..and we all have different opinions, but as the chief lyricist and therefore the one to blame for anything IT come out with.." ("I will remember that one" Paco warns) "..I would say violence begets violence." J resumes "Human beings are too self important, assuming we are better than every other species. So I think anyone that tests on animals is scum and they deserve what they get."

Although individual members of IT may have different opinions on some things, they agree on quite a lot and are very vocal about what they believe in. They also walk it like they talk it, tending to spend Glastonbury in the Travellers Field (when it was still allowed) rather than playing on the main site. Would they be tempted by the money though if Sony Records started waving wads in their faces? "Absolutely, positively, NO CHANCE!" Fran emphatically responds. "And that has been our attitude since the day the band was born. People have offered us this and that but we will only deal with underground DIY 'distros' and collectives, like Moloko, Mass Production and Peppermint Iguana." After the blistering set they performed for us, (when they eventually turned up.. 2 hours after the doors had opened!) we certainly hope to work with them again in the future.

INNER TERRESTRIALS: THE TRUTH THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW
A lot of nonsense has been talked over the years about UFOs, Area 51 and aliens. The assumption has always been that aliens decided to travel across the universe to have a look at the Americans setting off the first atomic weapons. The truth is much closer to home.

The truth is that underground testing of the first atomic weapons opened up a portal into the fourth dimension, allowing plasma beings that live inside planet earth access to this dimension. Once beyond the magnetic field that traps them close to the earth’s core where they live, they are able to use mind power to shift their mass from plasma to what we know as flesh.

Some of them managed to access this dimension in ancient times and often visited our ancestors, particularly the American shamen. They did not have free access though until the advent of the atomic bomb, which raises the question of whether humans were manipulated into creating atomic weaponry by the Inner Terrestrials.

If this were true we would have been told about it wouldn’t we? Well they have kept the truth about anti-gravity boots a secret haven’t they!
