JESUS AND MARY CHAIN

PSYCHOCANDY (WEA) 1985
Anyway, one of the most influential bands of the 80s, taking feedback and distortion to undreamt of extremes, like The Stooges mixed by wall of sound maestro Phil Spector. It sounds like the Reid brothers are shooting electro ray guns at each other as part of one of their mythical sibling dust ups. The singles "Never Understand", "You Trip Me Up" and "Just Like Honey" demonstrate what pop music used to sound like before the techno revolution. At this stage in their career one Bobby Gillespie was sitting in the drum stool unaware of what riches would be ahead of him. There are no doubt kids out there now gazing at their shoes that do not even realise they were influenced by this album, but the ripples this sent out across the pond of pop cannot be underestimated.
