NEXT SHOW
6th March 2012

WHAT SORT OF MUSIC IS PLAYED? For two hours you will be able to leave behind the mega stores and the major labels, stop drinking from the main stream, cast off your shackles and join the Peppermint Iguana Crew as we romp naked through the forest foraging for free range organic grooves, grown by musicians that lovingly cultivate sounds that have textures and vibes you will not find in factory farmed plastic pop.

We will visit a land more underground than the cellar in Tower Colliery; more DIY than B&Q, more hardcore than a pit bull with rabies and more eclectic than a thing that has recently come first in the world eclectic championships.

There are no fences or laws in this land, punk will be allowed to mix with dub, techno will mix with metal, rap will mix with folk, soul will mix with afrobeats and cider will mix with football. The Peppermint Iguana Crew will show you were to go to pick the ripest tunes and hang around the studio trying to stop the whole thing sounding like a fire in a pet shop.

A look around this website will give you a clue, but we will also be playing some hidden gems from the past

SHOW ELEVEN: 21st FEBRUARY 2012

Irony of ironies, after going to great lengths to keep the songs on the play list short so we could actually play everything, for technical reasons we don’t need to go into, the show before us ended early, meaning we ended up having to waffle to pad the show out for an extra three minutes. But hey, which ever way you look at it we finally got to play 28 songs.

Actually, that is not quite the whole picture, that should mean we played 14 each, but in fact due to a break down in communication, one of Johns songs turned into one of mine, in that there was a misunderstanding about which Flowered Up track got played, so we played my favourite, not Johns. The playful banter nearly turned into full on fisticuffs behind the scenes.  Oops, sorry john,

Anyway, other than that the show went swimmingly and Vince, our Dapper FM virgin of the week, thought it was groovy.

Clint ran with a theme of ;bands that have 'and the' in the title. read on and you will work it out.

SHOW NINE: 24TH JANUARY 2012

This week’s show was a little bit different. The Artist Formerly Known as Ginger John went to watch Cardiff city secure a place at Wembley for the league Cup Final, so we had a special guest stunt double type bloke drop in – in the shape of Pete ‘the punk’ Crews, Branch Secretary with Rhondda Cynon Taff UNISON.

PETE THE PUNK
Pete the Punk

And why did we pick him? Well, Rhondda Cynon Taff Local Government branch of UNISON have agreed a year long sponsorship package with community internet radio station Dapper FM. The deal will mean adverts for UNISON being heard throughout the day but more specifically the branch will be sponsoring The Peppermint Iguana Radio Show.

Peter stated; “Trade unions have always been about far more than the struggle for workers rights, they have also been proactive in the communities in which its members work and live. In South Wales there has been a proud tradition of community work such as building Miners’ Institutes and the setting up of organisations like the Workers Education Association. We see this sponsorship as following this fine tradition. Through this deal we hope we can help this community station grow, both through funding and helping to raise their profile. Hopefully we can help spread the word of trade unionism at the same time.”

And how did the boy Crews do? Well, he does not faff about as much as the Silver Fox, so for the first time ever we actually got to pay 27 out of the 28 tracks on our play list. A record!

SHOW SEVEN: 27TH DECEMBER 2011

Well it had to happen sooner or later. After several weeks of being trusted to run the show without anyone else in the studio looking over our shoulder, the wheels finally came off – big time.

It started so well, we managed to get in to the studio without getting stuck up the chimney, we uploaded the necessary music in record time, the show was going like a dream then all of a sudden, with no explanation, it all went pear shaped and the computer started playing five different tunes at the same time before grinding to an unexpected halt. We still do not know what went wrong.

Eventually Eggy managed to get his pants back on, pull up his trousers and rush down to the studio to get things back on track – but only after going through a re-boot of the entire system (when we mess up, we mess up big time!).

We did manage to play over an hour of music before it went wrong, Clint continued with his theme of mates and John joined in the theme idea, playing a strictly reggae selection. This is what we did play….

Cheesy and predictable, but could not be left out

What’s Going On MARVIN GAYE
A meditation on the troubles and problems of the world, the song proved a timely and relatable release, and it marked Gaye's departure from the pop stylings of 1960s-era Motown towards more personal material. The song topped a Metro Times list of the 100 Greatest Detroit Songs Of All Time

SHOW NUMBER FOUR: Tuesday 15th November 2011

Show four and things are starting to drop into place, or at least that is how it felt in the studio, with no technical boo boos this week.

This week Clint decided to have a Welsh theme running through the show and all of his selection came from artists west of the River Severn. The next show is the eve of the biggest strike since the Black Pudding Riots in Treorchy in 1926, so expect an appropriate theme to run through the night. SHOW NUMBER THREE: Tuesday 1st November 2011. Despite dodgy headphones and a misplaced confidence to twiddle with knobs we should not be twiddling with, show three still managed to sound almost competent. A more disciplined approach to play listing meant we only had to cut two tracks of the show this week, but they will be slotted in to the next show.

We kicked off with a little tribute to John Peel who passed away seven years ago last week. Without him, all our play lists would be very different. We also paid tribute to him by making lots of technical mistakes in the show.

SHOW TWO: 18TH OCTOBER 2011 Well folks, that’s two shows under the belt and everything is starting to come together like a well oiled jigsaw. Learning curve is phrase of the week. A bit more rabbit between choons resulted in half a dozen tracks being lopped off the play list as we progressed, but lessons are being learnt – although John is still forgetting to shut down the mikes after the music has started.

Don’t know about you, but we are enjoying it and starting to wish we were doing it every week. Too many tunes, too little time and all that. We have some interesting requests in that we are going to fit into the show over the next few weeks, but they are going to have to fit in with the stuff we want to play, that is after all why we are doing it!
